Artist Statement for “V” Motion Assignment
Upon seeing a reference to V for Vendetta in #BDC192 lecture hall the idea dawned on me to incorporate it into our pending motion assignment.
Guy Fawkes was a real historical figure who has become an internet meme symbolized by a cool looking mask appropriated by Anonymous of the infamous 4 Chan B board.
My original idea of using numerous still photos of stop motion chronologically numbered was replaced once I discovered one photo can be moved along the y-axis using After Effects. At first one cannot surmise it is a anonymous mask until it moves along and then pops out at you for dramatic effect just before the end credits. Although simple it is effective.
First using Photoshop I create assets, develop a mini-storyboard and isolated the mask “Editable Layer Styles” the vignette is a peephole effect with solid layer at top to fade in AE.
I then import to AE as psd file and create composition, animate mask layer, created keyframes, for scale and composition, pan up, zoom out x & y axis.
Typography is futura.
For the final effect the score is from the rights cleared iTunes library #13 Predator which works well with my overall theme. The end result is a very succesfull 5-second motion assignment for Digital Media Class.
